San Diego Union-Tribune: Served as Interim Vice President of Business Development & Strategy during 2009-2010. Responsible for several of the company’s highest value initiatives. Tasks included management of strategic analysis, deal structuring and negotiations. Worked daily with CEO, CFO and VP Operations at San Diego’s largest metro newspaper (225,000 average daily subscribers).

Developed the company’s first subscriber acquisition optimization strategy, offering a projected 65% reduction in unprofitable starts and $1 million in annual savings – one of the company’s largest projected EBITDA improvement initiatives.

Managed in-house business strategy and technology team to conceptualize, develop and maintain a proprietary profitability database system to track individual financial performance for each of 375,000 total subscribers and 120,000 starts.

Porchlight Entertainment: Provided leadership-level advice and tactical guidance through substantial corporate restructuring, including weekly cash flow management and planning, receivables management, staffing reconfiguration, assessment of business units up for closure, and restructuring of payables with over 100 creditors. Worked closely with CEO, President and private equity firm board representative. (See Case Study for further details on the engagement).
Ascent Media Group: Led project team assessing $100 million digital media opportunity for $700 million market leader owned by Liberty Media. Established market forecasts and developed timelines for rollout, marketing, staffing and financing. Conducted meetings with fifty potential business partners. Worked closely with Executive Board and secured multi-million dollar investment.
X-Dimensional: Advised senior management on turnaround options for failing $44 million internet subsidiary, including new segment participation, project management improvement and asset sale. Asked by senior board member to interview for CEO position, as the company has since restored its financial health and developed into a substantial competitor in its space.
Hangin' Hams Productions LLC: Founded and managed all aspects of this media content production company. Personally raised $1 million in production and marketing capital from 38 investors worldwide. Hired and managed 75 union employees. Reached and maintained agreements with 50 vendors. Developed national online and offline campaigns encompassing advertising and publicity. Negotiated television and DVD deals for short films in domestic and foreign markets. Managed overhead budgets, investor relations, tax filings, legal issues, etc.
Paramount Pictures: Managed movie and entertainment channel investments for cable and satellite platforms as a Manager of Business Planning and Development. Conducted planning and operations through oversight of channels on four continents totaling $100 million in revenue. Coordinated with local management on programming, marketing and distribution issues. Assessed business plans for new prospective cable and satellite channel investments. Authored pay-per-view strategy report. Managed financial analysis and was liaison to Studio Chairman for film and TV licensing deals totaling $2 billion.
